Learn how to write, organize, and manage notes locally in your browser with Zilita's Notes App.
Zilita's Notes App is a clean, minimalist writing tool that saves everything locally in your browser. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, and no corporate servers storing your thoughts. Whether you are jotting down a quick idea, drafting an email, keeping a journal, or collecting research snippets, the Notes App keeps your data on your device and under your control.
Navigate to the Notes App from the Zilita tools page. The app loads instantly with an empty canvas ready for your first note. There is no loading screen, sign-in prompt, or tutorial overlay — just a blank page and a toolbar.
Click the “New Note” button in the toolbar or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N. A new note appears in the sidebar with a default title based on the current date and time. Start typing — the editor supports rich text formatting including bold, italic, headings, bullet lists, numbered lists, and code blocks. Use the formatting toolbar or standard keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+B for bold, Ctrl+I for italic).
Give your note a meaningful title by clicking the default title and typing. You can also assign categories or tags to group related notes together. Categories appear as color-coded badges in the sidebar, making it easy to filter and find notes by topic. Common category examples include Work, Personal, Ideas, Research, and Shopping.
As your collection grows, use the search bar at the top of the sidebar to find notes by title or content. The search updates in real time as you type. You can also filter by category using the dropdown filter. The sidebar shows a live count of matching notes and the total number of notes saved.
Click any note in the sidebar to open it for editing. Changes save automatically — there is no manual save button. To delete a note, open it and click the trash icon in the toolbar. A confirmation dialog prevents accidental deletion. To export a note, use the export button to download it as a plain text or Markdown file. Exported files are saved to your device downloads folder.
No. All notes are stored locally in your browser's localStorage. They never leave your device and are not accessible from any other computer or browser.
Since notes are stored locally, they do not sync across devices. Use the export feature to download notes as files, then transfer them to another device manually.
Browser localStorage typically allows up to 5-10 MB of data per domain. For text-only notes, this allows hundreds to thousands of notes depending on length.
The Notes App works in any modern mobile browser. Bookmark the page for quick access on your phone or tablet.
The Zilita Team builds privacy-first browser tools that help teachers, students, developers, businesses, and creators work more efficiently without sacrificing data privacy.
